Neuro rehab, physio advice and AI - June in the media

Physiotherapy is featuring prominently in the media in 2024

In June, Ash James, Director of Practice and Development, was interviewed by the BBC as part of their Your Voice, Your Vote series on pre-election concerns.

Parents of three-year-old Reuben were told that he would have to wait for a year for community rehab following a stroke. His dad said, ‘Children should have a bare minimum of an hour a day, but the physios are stretched and they need more funding and more of them to give a better service because they want to give the best service that they can. But they are giving it with one hand tied behind their backs.'

Ash James was interviewed about wider workforce and access to rehab issues, ‘All of this is further compounded by a physiotherapy workforce shortage across the UK, where we know we need a 7% increase in NHS physiotherapy positions every year to meet rising demand.

‘We’re at a point in time where we need to flip the script and recognise that rehabilitation is as important as medicine and surgery, because that is the case for an ever-growing number of people.’

CSP member Sam Bhide offered advice on how to fall safely if you’re over 65 in the Daily Telegraph, mattress toppers for Good Housekeeping magazine and simple fitness tests for different ages in iNews

John Cowman, CEO at the CSP, joined 54 organisations to call on the next Government to make sure it prioritises reform and funding for social care in a letter published in The Carer.

And finally, John Cowman commented on a pilot service using AI as part of their physiotherapy offer in Pulse Today
