The CSP's Annual Representative Conference (ARC) took place in Manchester this week (3-4 June), with over 200 members helping to shape the direction of the society.
CSP stewards, safety and equality reps, professional networks, country boards, regional networks, student reps, associates' network, diversity networks and the retirement association all came together at ARC this week. They debated motions put forward by members on topics of importance to the profession.
This year the debates covered topics such as:
- Safe staffing
- AHP leadership
- Sustainability
- Black, Asian and Minority ethnic representation in physio
- FCP roles
- and much more!
ARC motions which passed at the conference are advisory and CSP Council will use them to inform their role in setting strategy and policy. Council will report on what decisions it takes later this year.
Member-led meetings
During the conference, CSP members held a series of smaller fringe workshops to discuss in detail the following topics:
- The role of healthcare workers in conflict zones
- Empowering conversations: Addressing fascism and fostering allyship
- Shaping tomorrow’s story today - the CSP, pivotal political and trade union event in history
FCP – the way forward and how unions can help
Ruth Jones MP
Ruth Jones MP spoke as an invited speaker reflecting on her career as a physiotherapist and the transferable skills that came with it that led her to role as an MP.
She championed physiotherapy and said it was critical to health and care.
Ruth told ARC delegates:
Physiotherapy holds the system together across all sectors. Do not only see yourself as clinicians - there are a range of roles out there for you.
Rep of the Year Awards
ARC delegates recognised the achievements of CSP reps who have excelled in the work they have done on behalf of members, and the physiotherapy profession.
This year almost 100 nominations were received, and the judging panel had the unenviable task of determining the winners who were celebrated at ARC.
Baroness Ilora Finlay, CSP president and Ishmael Beckford, previous Chair of CSP council and CSP vice-president presented the awards.
